The 14th Philippine UNIGAMES has been officially opened last October 24 at the Central Philippine University (CPU) University Gym. Before the ceremony there was a foot parade around the CPU campus with the participants, coaches, event officials along with the city and provincial executives of Iloilo. it started at 5PM and then the program followed. Secretary Gilbert Teodoro was supposed to be the main speaker of the opening ceremony, but due to the menace of Typhoon Ramil he decided to stay in Manila, not to mention he is the chairman of the National Disaster Coordinating Council (NDCC). Instead of Sec. Teodoro, Dr. Teodoro Robles, university president of CPU took over the welcoming of the participants. During the program, Tribu Paghidaet, the Dinagyang 2009 overall Champion had a special number that wowed the visiting athletes and served as an opportunity for them to take photos with the dinagyang champ warriors.
