August 25 is a Special Non-Working Holiday in Iloilo City
Executive Secretary Paquito N. Ochoa Jr. by the authority of President Benigno Aquino III just signed Proclamation No. 203, declaring August 25 as a Special (Non-Working) Day in Iloilo City.
August 25, 2011 marks the 74th Charter Day anniversary of Iloilo City. The then municipality of Iloilo was incorporated with the surrounding municipalities of Lapaz, Mandurriao, Molo and Arevalo to form a chartered city on July 16, 1937 by virtue of Commonwealth Act No. 158. However, it was only inaugurated on August 25, 1937.
With the declaration of the official local holiday for Iloilo City‘s Charter Day celebration, Ilonggos are now given full opportunity to celebrate and participate in the occasion and join various activities and ceremonies lined up by the city government.
Last year, Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog declared the said date as a Holiday but only for the City Hall employees. This time with the presidential proclamation, August 25 becomes a special non-working holiday for all the Ilonggos.
