Timezone opens in Iloilo

Timezone, the Ayala-managed chain of family entertainment centers has just opened a branch in Iloilo City. Co-located with SM Storyland at the Lower Ground Floor of SM City Iloilo, Timezone occupies a rather small portion of the space. SM Storyland’s Party Room and Kiddie Bump Car are still in place and operational. When you look at it, you can say, a Timezone within a SM Storyland. Nevertheless it is still great to enjoy playing with the popular arcade games offered exclusively at Timezone without going anywhere.

Built in 1999, SM City Iloilo has already reached its full occupancy level, hence the crowding of its mall locators.

GSIH now named The Medical City Iloilo

The Great Saviour International Hospital (GSIH) which was previously managed and operated by Manila-based company, The Medical City is now officially named The Medical City Iloilo (TMC-Iloilo). The transformation was made after the company fully acquired the hospital. The Medical City is planning to invest more than P700M over the next few years to upgrade the hospital facilities and acquire new ones.

The Medical City (TMC) is a tertiary care hospital with over forty years experience in hospital operation and administration. Its world-class health care complex serves some 40,000 in-patients and 400,000 out-patients annually. Its main complex is located on a 1.5 hectare property along Ortigas Avenue in Pasig City, Metro Manila.

Edgar “Injap” Sia II, the 34 year old brilliant man behind the phenomenal success of Mang Inasal is among “The Philippines’ 40 Richest” list of Forbes Magazine for 2011. The annual global wealth watch list is devised by Forbes Magazine, the leading business news resource to give credit to the world’s business leaders.

Sia landed on the 40^th spot of the list with a total net worth of $85 million. He is the youngest on the ranks and one of the newcomers along with Jose Antonio (24^th; Net Worth: $245 million), founder of high-end property developer Century Properties; and Jacinto Ng Sr. (35^th; Net Worth: $115 million), founder of biscuit maker Rebisco.

The multi-billion project of Megaworld Corporation in Iloilo is finally set to break ground on May 6, 2011. The company will develop the old Iloilo airport in Mandurriao District into a new bustling Iloilo Central Business District.

Megaworld acquired the 54.5-hectare site of the old Iloilo airport from the Philippine government in 2007 but since then no other major developments happened in the area. The planned commercial district will comprise of office buildings, educational facilities, residential projects, a hotel, a convention center as well as retail and recreational areas.

Some facilities will be registered as a special economic zone with the Government, which will allow it to benefit from a tax holiday period as well as other incentives for investors.

Super Max Rider International to build P2-B theme park in Iloilo City

Super Max Rider International, a Korean company will build a theme park in Iloilo City. Similar to that of Enchanted Kingdom and Star City in Laguna and Metro Manila respectively, the Iloilo project is expected to boost the tourism in this side of the country. It is expected to give a different form of entertainment to the Ilonggos and visitors alike.

The Korean company through its chairman Cha Jin Kook signified the interest to put up a theme park with up to 14 major rides. The company is willing to invest P2 billion for the amusement project. They are planning to pour in the investment at a two-hectare vacant lot between the Megaworld properties and SM City Iloilo in Mandurriao district.

Aklan Piña and Fiber Festival 2011

The Aklan Piña and Fiber Festival 2011 (Fiber Fest) will highlight the 55th anniversary of the Province of Aklan this year.

The week-long trade fair will be held at The Trade Hall at the Capitol Site in Kalibo on April 25-30, 2011. The opening program and unveiling of this year’s theme will be on April 25 at 10:00am.

The Fiber Fest will feature Aklanon’s creativity and versatility in producing premium quality products such as: piña, abaca and raffia loomwoven fabrics and fashion accessories; gifts, furnishings, and decorative crafts; processed meat and fish products, bakery, and confectionery products; and ornamental plants and cutflowers.

There will be various exhibits during the trade fair that will include:

Contemporary Lifestyle Setting of Living Spaces by International Lifestyle Designer PJ Arañador
One-Town One Product (OTOP) booths of all 17 municipalities of Aklan
Agri-Aqua products of community-based organizations and agencies

The festive mood set for the Fiber Fest will be highlighted by the Tsibugan sa Kapitolyo with nightly food stalls and entertainment events such as live bands to entertain guests and visitors. The Aklan Provincial Capitol Grounds will be transformed into a gastronomic junction with food festivals showcasing native and gourmet foods that Aklan can offer.

The Fiber Fest is a showcase of Public and Private Partnership (PPP) led by the Provincial Government of Aklan, with the Congressional District Office, the Department of Trade and Industry, the Fiber Industry Development Authority, the Aklan Piña Manufacturers and Indigenous Fibers Traders Association, Inc., the Hugod Aklanon Producers Association, Inc., and the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Inc. – Aklan Chapter.

21-Storey Tower by INJAP Land to Rise in Iloilo City

Iloilo will soon have the first ever high-rise building in the city and probably the first in Western Visayas. INJAP Land Corporation is building its newest condominium project here by the second quarter of 2011.

It will be a 21- storey Commercial and Residential Tower to be built in a 1,046 square meter newly acquired property at the corner of Jalandoni St. and Diversion Road, right across SM City Iloilo in Mandurriao district. It will have commercial units in the ground floor, multi-level parking and residential condo units. The high-rise building is designed by the famous ASYA Design firm headed by its principal Architect, Albert Siy Yu.

Iloilo is surely catching up with its economic development, thanks to Mr. Edgar Sia’s young and aggressive business acumen.
