The newly constructed Efrain B. Treñas Boulevard along the banks of Iloilo River is quickly becoming a fitness and leisure park for the Ilonggos. It was officially opened to the public last March 13, 2010.
The kilometer boulevard stretches from Forbes Bridge in Luna, Lapaz (Gaisano City) up to Jalandoni Bridge and continues from BBQ Park Restaurant to Carpenter’s Bridge in Mandurriao District. Named after the late Ilonggo legislator Efrain B. Treñas, this boulevard was constructed to promote Leisure Park and tourism in the city built during the term of Mayor Jerry Treñas.
Fitness aficionados and weight “losers” find this place a haven, especially the stretch from BBQ Park up to Carpenter’s Bridge. You can see herds of them flocking for a fitness routine early in the morning until the sun shows up and late in the afternoon. Some do biking, jogging, walking, aerobics and many other activities to keep them fit.
Bike rentals are available within the area for a minimal fee, just be sure to bring an ID. Centralized music is playing along this stretch with speakers installed along the streetlights’ posts to keep you cheered while doing your routine or just hanging around.
Some groups are conducting aerobics session near the Carpenter’s Bridge early in the morning.
Efrain B. Treñas Boulevard is also the place to best experience sunset in Iloilo.
I’d love to see this boulevard teeming with mid-rise buildings on its side – with ongoing developments in Smallville, Boardwalk and KAPIDECO area.
