Iloilo Chinese New Year 2011 [Photos]
Local Filipino-Chinese community in Iloilo comprised by Chinese private entities, schools and business clubs converged to celebrate the entry of the Year of the Metal Rabbit.
Fully supported by the Iloilo City Government, the Iloilo Chinese New Year Celebration is considered one of the best and much awaited events joining the festival season of Iloilo (January: Dinagyang Festival; February: Jaro Candelaria, Iloilo Chinese New Year and Paraw Regatta).
It started with a parade along Iznart, J.M. Basa and Aldeguer Streets, the so-called Chinese Triangle where most Chinese establishments in the city are located. Right after the parade, the cultural show started which was held at Iznart Street near Socorro where the Filipino-Chinese Friendship Arc is currently being constructed. The food fair which showcased some traditional Chinese grubs was also along Iznart.
The event was capped with a 15-minute fireworks display.
This year’s parade, especially the Dragon and Lion dances were actually not as colorful and lively as the previous year’s celebration. Nevertheless, it was a very successful event attended by non other than the Chinese Ambassador to the Philippines himself.
