InnoPub Media in partnership with Smart Communications recently launched a digital tourism project in Iloilo. The growing tourists visiting Iloilo will finally have a handy guide to Iloilo’s heritage and tourism destinations.

Prior to launching the project in Iloilo, the digital media startup InnoPub headed by Max Limpag, has initially carried out this initiative in Cebu in 2011. Plans of launching the same project in Baguio City and Pampanga are also underway.

Upon arrival at the Iloilo Airport, tourists can scan the quick response (QR) codes, using their phones or tablets, in the special posters and standees to download the Iloilo Quick Guide. These posters containing QR codes can also be found inside the Iloilo City Gallery at Iloilo City Hall and various establishments around the city.

Produced in partnership with Cebu Pacific Air, the handy mobile guide contains a list of places to go, useful contact numbers, must-eat local delicacies and other must-tries to make the most out of your stay in Iloilo.

Aside from that, the mobile guide includes a website that allows tourists to view an interactive map of places to go to based on their locations. To view suggested areas, tourists need to turn on their gadget’s global positioning system or GPS, open myguide.ph and enable location sharing.

While touring around Iloilo’s popular heritage and tourism sites, tourists can also scan the QR codes placed in the special markers within the vicinity to download snippets of information about the landmark or the tourism site. QR code markers are initially set up in 7 heritage sites in the city: Jaro Cathedral, Deocampo Barquillos Shop, Arcenas-Lazaro Ancestral House, Molo Church, Lola Rufina Heritage Curio Shop, Nicholas Loney Monument and Aduana or Customs House.

You will need to have a QR Code scanner installed in your phone or tablet to scan the QR codes utilized in this program. There are free QR code scanner apps available at your phone’s respective application store but here are the popular options:

After installing a QR reader, the last thing you need to have is a dependable mobile Internet connection to enjoy the benefits of this program.

I’m an ilongga and last February I went home with a Swiss friend. My friend was very interested with Iloil’s history, culture and traditions. We have had to buy a mini book guide and it wasn’t really easy to find a good one. I think this is a good move! When we go back next year, we will try this digital tourism. Perhaps, we will be able to visit more nd discover more of Iloilo. I bookmarked your article at http://www.pinoyfootslogger.com/index.php?page=27
