JARO FIESTA 2009 – FEAST OF OUR LADY OF CANDLES (CANDELARIA)

Every February 2nd Jaro District in Iloilo City celebrates its annual fiesta. It is a grand celebration that has weeks of AGRO-INDUSTRIAL And CHARITY FAIR and culminates in the highlights of the event which is the feast of Candelaria. It draws herds of peaople not only from Iloilo but also from nearby provinces and islands. It is a holiday for the catholics. Like a typical fiesta, households in Jaro prepare sumptous feast for friends and relatives to come and eat. One of the highlights of the festivity is the coronation of the Fiesta Queen who is chosen from the selective rich and popular families in Jaro and/or native of Jaro. This year’s Fiesta Queen is Marie Angelica Chan the daughter of the acclaimed singer/song writer and businessman Jose Mari Chan and Mary Ann Ansaldo.

Cock fighting enthusiast from all over the country come to Jaro for its Multi-Million cock-derby which is one of its kind in the country.
