Last Day of Sooo Pinoy Food Tour in Boracay

| June 14, 2012 | 0 Comments

On to the Sooo Pinoy’s last day in Boracay!

We started off with a refreshing breakfast at Astoria Boracay’s White Café. I said refreshing because of Astoria’s unique blended welcome drink that we had which is a mixture of Pandan, Vanilla and Dayap (local lime) – oh so refreshing. We’ve learned that each of Astoria’s hotels and resorts has its signature welcome drinks.

We were presented with Astoria’s sui generis version of Filipino staple Pork Sinigang and Beef Kare-Kare. They look very delightful but we never touched the food – it was all for picture taking and presentation only. Instead, we were given access to the restaurant’s Breakfast Buffet where we enjoyed a plethora of breakfast goodies from pancakes and omelettes to hotdogs and sausages and a whole bunch more. After filling ourselves with breakfast we were given a quick tour of the resort.

After that we packed our things and did some last minute shopping for pasalubongs and souvenirs. Then we headed to Ka-On Restaurant located at the rooftop of The Tides Hotel Boracay for lunch where we also held a little informal culminating activity to officially close the 5-day gastronomic-filled adventure in Iloilo and Boracay. At Ka-On Restaurant we had Beef Ribs Adobo, Grilled Bangus with Lemongrass and Ginger Sauce, Pinakbet, Monggo Soup with Chicharon and Gising-gising – a unique mix of sauted green vegetables with a little of ground meat, shrimp paste and fresh coconut milk.

Thereafter, we headed back to the hotel and we were off to leave the island.

Overall, it was really a one-of-a-kind experience for us given the chance to savor the best the Ilonggo cuisine and the Filipino cuisine in general have to offer. Thanks to Unilever Food Solutions for spearheading the Sooo Pinoy advocacy in promoting Filipino cuisine to the world and bringing to the spotlight the best of the regions.

The Sooo Pinoy “Food Trip Na, Pilipinas!” Food Tour will go around the country for the rest of the year to savor the top Filipino dishes.
