SM Hypermarket Jaro-Iloilo Now Open!

SM Hypermarket just opened a branch in Jaro, Iloilo City last October 23, 2010. The 5th branch of SM investments in the city, SM Hypermarket is the first of its kind in the Visayas and Mindanao area. This branch was converted from the Makro store which SM decided to stop operating because it is not gaining much in the current Philippine market trend.

The SM Hypermarket concept was started by the Sy family back in 2001 in response to the constant need of consumers for a holistic shopping experience.  The concept behind the creation of a new retail format (hypermarket retail format) is to combine the conveniences of both the supermarket and the department store in one roof (as in one roof – no walls dividing). It is primarily aimed to provide the consumer with a one-stop shop where most shopping needs will be satisfied all in one go which is also the world trend for supermarkets now.

SM Hypermarket Jaro-Iloilo features bills payment and foreign exchange counters, a Hyper Foodcourt and several shops including Watson’s and its pharmacy. Its interiors (especially the flooring) are quite not done s0 well that it look like decked in hurry. The overall look is still much like that of Makro. However, SM Hypermarket Jaro provides a more extensive selection of items not available in other SM Supermarkets here. More fruits and other fresh produce, a wider range of meat and deli section and of course the convenience of a department store such as the furniture, clothing and appliance sections. SM Hypermarket also have a wholesale section.

The small city of Iloilo alone already hosts to 5 SM junctions (1 SM Supermall, 1 Standalone SM Department Store with supermarket, 2 standalone supermarkets/Savemore markets and now 1 SM Hypermarket) which seem visible that Iloilo is a favorite investment ground of the Sy group.

SM Supermarket Jaro-1 is relatively adjacent to the new SM Hypermarket.
