Go Hotel soon to rise at Robinsons Place Iloilo

Development and expansion plans looms in the pipeline for Robinsons Place Iloilo this year including the construction of a Go Hotels chain here.

Just as the year started, the mall closed its Ledesma Wing and the whole of its Ledesma open carpark to give way for the first phase of constructions.

The 3-level shopping center of Robinsons Land Corporation is currently undergoing a major facelift in the department store area and some parts of the mall.

Opened in 2001, Robinsons Place Iloilo has undergone a lot of renovations in its structure to catch up with the recent craze in the Philippine malling trend and to give the Ilonggos a better service. The current overhaul centers at the department store section following the fuss brought about by the newly lit up SM Department Store in SM City Mandurriao.

Will Iloilo have another SM Mall?

2011 would be a very exciting year of development for Iloilo with the latest hype of SM Prime Holdings, Inc. plan of building yet another SM Mall in the city. In an article by BusinessWorld, it was disclosed that the Sy owned conglomerate is eyeing a second mall in Iloilo City. It was also revealed that not only in Iloilo City that SM will be very aggressive in expanding but also in the entire Visayas and Mindanao region with plans in the pipeline for Cebu, Bacolod, General Santos and Davao.

This is a welcome development for Iloilo City, considering the relatively small area of the city and the presence of several local and big players in the malling industry. The SM group never really seem to hold back its faith in the ever thriving Ilonggo market. Currently, its flagship mall in the city, SM City Iloilo is already running out of leasable spaces with the influx of growing new businesses coming in. I personally thought that an expansion for SM City Iloilo is due but it came out not only an expansion but another Mall.

No further details as to where this second full service mall will be located but based on the article all of the Visayas-Mindanao projects of SM Prime Holdings is expected to open in 2012.

To date, Iloilo City already hosts to 5 SM’s: SM Delgado, SM City Iloilo, SM Savemore Jaro 1 and 2 and SM Hypermarket (also in Jaro).

Plazuela de Iloilo Inauguration set

The much-awaited grand opening of the Spanish-inspired mall strip, Plazuela de Iloilo has been moved several times already. When it was launched last year, it was promised to be operational by 10-10-10 (September October 10, 2010) but due to construction delay of the entire edifice they moved it to November 19, 2010. Few days ago there was already a big signage stating its soft-opening on the said date. But just today, another news item said that the inauguration was again moved to December 7 to give way for the completion of the entire structure and I think to give the tenants also more time to furbish their spaces. Or maybe the Grand Inauguration will be on December 7 but the Soft Opening will be this Friday.

Anyway, more and more tenants, mostly restaurants are set to open at Plazuela. Most of them are the best in the local scene and some are prominent in Manila.
