The Lizares Mansion: Angelicum School of Iloilo
The Lizares Mansion is an iconic residential house in Jaro, Iloilo City. It has been a testament on how the sugar industry is booming back then and entails the sugar barons’ luxurious living way back in time. It used to be the residence of the Lizares-Gamboa Family during the sugar industry’s heyday in Iloilo. The majestic grand mansion became enchanted when rumors said that the vacated house is haunted. It used to be the headquarters with reputed torture chambers where some nuns and prominent Ilonggo family members were killed during Japanese occupation in Iloilo.
In early 1980′s the imposing mansion was acquired by the Dominican Fathers and transformed it into the now Angelicum School of Iloilo (ASIL).
During Christmas seasons it contests the several institutions in the city that blasts in Christmas decors like CPU Festival of Lights and Pototan IWAG Festival. The façade of the mansion is well lighted with glittering Christmas lights that lured the people to come. It has been a tradition now in Iloilo that during December families finds it a point to go to Angelicum and stroll around to feel the spirit of the season feed the sense with the glimmering lights exhibit.
